Suzuki: Speedometer, trip odometer, suzis

Question
The speedometer on my 1993 sidekick stopped registering at exactly 50,000 miles. The trip odometer still works properly. Is there some check to be done at this time to reset the speedometer or is it possibly broken internal?


Answer
While many of the earlier (pre 94) Suzis have a mechanism in the speedo that lights a periodic service indicator, I've not seen it cause the speedo to fail, at least thus far.  I do, however suspect an internal failure, assuming that the cable and it's drive are intact.
