Chevrolet Repair: 1977 chev blazer, chev blazer, crank pulley

Question
hi what would cause my blazer to just die and not start again it turns over but wont start what could that be

Answer
Hi David,

Ignition module, rotor broke (saw that once), coil went bad or lost its supply voltage, bad coil wire, timing chain broke, fuel issue (filter, pump), distributor is not turning (broken cam), no gas (don't laugh it happens), timing jumped, fusible link possibly.  Of course it could be something else.

You first have to determine if you don't have fuel or spark.  Pull off the dist. cap and crank the motor.  Is the rotor going around?  If so, use a wrench and set the crank pulley at top-dead-center.  Is the rotor pointing in the direction of the #1 plug or forward of it?  If so, replace the cap and if you have a timing light, hook it to the coil wire and look for a timing signal while cranking.  If you have a signal, then disconnect the fuel line at the filter and crank the motor.  If you have fuel, look for timing issues (jumped time, bad chain).

Hope this helps.
