Chevrolet Repair: 88 5.7L TBI wont start, chevy k5 blazer, oil pressure gauge

Question
I changed out the cam in my 88 Chevy K5 Blazer to a computer controlled comp cam. I can't get it to start now.  It ran before I changed the cam. I try to prime with gas but it just burns what I put in and then quits.  I did install an after market oil pressure gauge.  I read something that you said about the oil pressure sending unit building pressure and signaling the fuel pump. If you feel that this is what is the problem, can you explain more about this system and how I can use my new gauge?

Answer
The fuel pump should also be operated by a relay, which is closed by the ecm, when it recieves a crank signal from the distributor module.
You could find the fuel pump wires that were connected to the oil switch, and use either a toggle switch, or connect it to the ignition switch. It runs all the time the engine is running, and wouldn't hurt it to turn it on before starting the engine, and turning it off after shutting the engine off.
Trouble is, you are bypassing the built in safety feature of the pump shutting off after a wreck, so it doesn't just pump raw fuel.
You could also get a Ford fuel cutoff switch that shuts the pump off after a hard impact or big bump.
