Chevrolet Repair: 1983 chevy s-10, good shape, distributor cap

Question
my 1983 chevy s-10 with a 2.8 liter died the other day. i was driving down the highway at about 45 miles per hour and it just died. i pulled over to the side of the road. i tried to start it again but it would not start. i had to have it towed home. since then i have replaced the ignition coil. that did not help. it has no spark coming out of the coil. what do i do now?

Answer
Hi David,

When you turn the key, and the starter turns the motor, does the rotor under the distributor cap also turn?  If not, timing belt/chain is bad.

Is the rotor under the cap in good shape?  Recently I saw a Dodge come in with the same symptoms and the rotor just disintatrated.

Ignition module can be checked at auto parts store, prior to buying a new one.  Take the old one to them.  Found under the cap.

Try these.  Write back if not any of them.
