Chevrolet Repair: 1989 Chevrolet Cavalier z24 2.6 Liter, chevrolet cavalier z24, 1989 chevrolet cavalier z24

Question
I have had a lot of problems out of this car but one major. I have a HUGE loss in horsepower, bad exhaust smell/raw gas smell, and have tried everything. New plugs, new wires, new EGR valve, new TBI, new coil packs, etc. My 2 and 5 firing range coil pack is dead and I have put 3 new ones in it. I am very limited in mechanics but I know this car. I thought either an Ignition Module or a Burnt/collapsed valve or lifter. Any ideas, things to check? I would rather not play the guessing game anymore

Answer
ok, there are a few reasons for a raw gas smell comming out of the tailpipe. first, the cat is plugged, or burnt. that could also give you performance problems. next, the fuel pressure regulator. that will give you performance problems also. o2 sensor, will tell the engine to dump fuel in this case. which could cause performance issues. is your service engine soon light on? if so, get it scanned. that will tell you what system is not working. if not, go with the cat or reg. good luck.
