Chevrolet Repair: Speedometer, chevrolet truck, speed sensor

I have a 2003 h.d. chevrolet truck and the speedometer does not work but the odometer does. Is the problem the cable or is it all electronic. If I have to replace the dash, is this somthing a shade mechanic like myself can replace?

its probably the instrument panel, those trucks had a lot of problems with them. now, im not saying its not the speed sensor, but the past says its the panel. and, yes, you could do it yourself. the surround panel is held on with clips just pull it off, take the four screws off the instrument cluster, disconnect the one connector, and its out.
