Chevrolet Repair: 2000 malibu v-6, air control valve, idle air control valve

My friend has a 2000 Malibu that is having a problem with the idle air control valve.  They think.  When you have it park or sitting at a stoplight the car seems like it is going to die.  any suggestions. They are going to try to put the part on themselves.  Is this possible.

before you try to change it out, i would call the dealer and see if there is a relearn proceedure for that. im not sure if there is or not. but if there is, and your battery died, or you replaced it, it will need to be relearned. if it needs to be changed, its not that hard to do. i think its just two bolts. and then the car has to learn it.
