Chevrolet Repair: Need to know if the freeze plug is leaking., coolant leak, freeze plugs

Question
I replaced the water pump, thermostat, and intake gasket on my 98 Lumina 3.1 and I still have a coolant leak. Where is it coming from? It is a front wheel drive and the leak is coming from the passanger side at the back of the engine, is that a freeze plug?

Answer
Hi Josh,

There are freeze plugs all over the engine.  And they can leak.  You also have a metal line that supplies coolant to the heater core.  I cannot tell you without actually seeing it.

You will have to crawl under the car, possibly while on ramps, with it running (and properly chocked).  Look at the metal lines, and the freeze plugs.  The freeze plugs should be easy to see on this car.  If you go under with the car off, you may possibly see a stain from the freeze plug, running down the block.  That is tell-tale.

I wish I could be more help, but leaks could be from anywhere.
