Chevrolet Repair: 1990 Cavalier Z-24 3.1 Automoatic, pvc valve, vacuum line

Question
I just had the fuel pump fuel sending unit MAP Sensor and Gas tank replaced. Changed spark plugs and wires. New oil and filter. I am having a problem with the idle. It is idleing really low and sometimes stalls out at a sitting position. Starts fine runs fine it's all in the idle any advice on what this may be? I just put 700 into it and will be mad if it was just a little sensor I have no idea about. Help!!!

Answer
Hi Jennifer,

This is a difficult problem to detect because the computer can not sense a malfunction, the vehicles computer system thinks everything is ok.

You have a lot of things that can affect idle.  How about the IAC (Idle Air control), the EGR system, broken vacuum line, leaky air intake gasket, plugged air cleaner, bad fuel filter, PVC valve, injectors dirty, timing off, low compression, and so on.

Take a vacuum reading at idle.  This should tell you if you are low compression.  If so, could be different reasons.

Check these things out.  Good luck.
