Chevrolet Repair: Unit left front, vacuum hoses, gas fumes

86 chev celebrity at the left under the fender head light area there is a back unit with what looks like vacuum hoses hooked up to it is this for the brakes it sounds like it is pumping excessively. Thankyou

i think what you are looking at is your evaprative system canister. and i think what you hear is the actuator. this system pulls gas fumes from the gas tank when pressure builds and stores the fumes in the canister until it is pumped into the intake to be burned in the engine what you might be hearing is the actuator cycling excessively, or cycling the way its supposed to. at any rate, do not remove or take any of the hoses off.
