Trucking: owner-operator intermodal container port hauling, shipping containers, bob stephens

Question
The question that I have is. I am trying to become an owner-operator. Lease on with a company to haul shipping containers out of Norfolk, Va. Is this a profitable business to go into?

Answer
Hi Rob.

Yes, you can do good with containers.  It's not going to be the highest paying freight, but it's steady and there is a lot of it.  The trick is to find a good, economical truck.  You won't be making long haul runs, so you don't need a long haul truck.  That's my view, anyway.  A good, used truck with a small sleeper hauls the freight as good anything else and will put more money in your pocket.  Talk with other drivers of the company and see what they think too.

Good luck!
