Chevrolet Repair: Engine Light, cavilier, hi doug

Hi I have a 1996 Cavilier it just turned over 100,000 miles and now the engine light has come on.  The car was cheked out and everything appears fine.  Is this just just some kind of reminder light for some type of dealership attention?

Hi Doug,

Many cars after the mid-90's are set to turn this light on at 100K, so you will get it looked at.  They manufacturer wants you to go to the dealer for a complete check-up.  Mostly they want you to change the O2 sensor.  

It will take a scan tool to turn this light off.  Some car part places will let you borrow their scan tool, for a deposit.  You can turn this off yourself.  Or you can take it in.  

This will turn on again at 200K.
