Chevrolet Repair: code P1406 EGR Valve, fuse panel, nice day

Question
I have a 96 chevy S-10 that would not pass state insp. The read out gave a code of P1406 which iam told is an emmision code (EGR) Per a friend i removed the EGR valve and cleaned the portal holes with a wire i also loosened the Pintal? at the bottom of the valve (it was carboned up), After reinstalling the EGR valve i dissconnected the neg battery ter. to reset the computer and turn off the service engine soon light. I drove the truck approx 30 miles stopping twice to turn the engine off and restart, the light never came back on.... untill i parked it at home for a few hours, then went out to test drive it agian, about a mile down the road the light came back on. Any ideas would be a great help. i have 9 more days to get it inspected. Also, a/c is not working. power at the fuse panel and at the relay (Bottom left terminal) on firewall no power at compressor. PLEASE HELP... Thanks

Answer
Hi Robbie, This sounds like you have a bad EGR valve, replace the valve and get a new gastket that has a screen in the port so carbon won't get into the new valve. As far  as the A/C it most likely needs a charge or has a leak.

Hope this helps
