Chevrolet Repair: hard to start when cold, fuel pressure gauge, fuel pressure regulator

Question
I have a 2000 chevy silverado 5.3 140000,when the temp is below freezing the trucks is hard to start i hear the fuel pump come on but it might take a few minutes then it will just start. If the temp is above freezing i have no problem.

Answer
Hi Chris, The first thing i would is install a fuel pressure gauge on the fuel rail tap. Now check the fuel pump pressure, also check the fuel pressure regulator. make sure that there isn't gas in the vacuum line going to the regulator, if there is replace the fuel regulator. Fuel pressure needs to be 55-62 PSI. If all looks good, check the gauge when you first turn the key to run when the engine is cold. The fuel pressure needs to be 55-62, if not replace the fuel pump.

Hope this helps
