Chevrolet Repair: Over heating 2000 Chevy Malibu, cylinder head gasket, 2000 chevy malibu

Question
I have a 2000 Chevy Malibu.  My temp gauge shoots up indicating its overheating and the car cuts off.  My thermostat and heat pump have been replaced and it is still doing the same thing. What type of anifreeze should I be using. Also, we can not see any leakage

Answer
Hi Deborah, I'm going to take it you have a V6 engine. What I'm thinking is wrong is the cylinder head gasket is blown. This could be from when the engine first overheated, or just from age. It is hard to say. You can use either green coolant or the extended life coolant. The green is cheaper and has to be flushed every couple years.

Hope this helps
