Chevrolet Repair: 1988 Chevy trans problem, 350 chevy, torque converter

1988 350 chevy 2500 4x4   The  automatic trans is engaging hard making the truck lunge forward  almost as if the torque converter is locking up and does not seem to shift in overdrive. Prior to this the truck was very slow to engage in drive 5 to 10 seconds  Thanks Doug dk0586@yahoo.com
