Chevrolet Repair: 86 trans am bad oil pressure, low oil pressure, rod bearing

Question
I just recently switched my engines in my car with a rebuilt 350, the distribute was one tooth off and gave me problems trying to start the car. when i figured it out i got the car started and had oil pressure problems when coming to a stop. The engine did not have this problem in the other car it was in. I was told that the engine turning over and not firing let fuel leak into the oil, i changed the oil and sure enough it had fuel in it, I was wandering your thoughts on how to approach fixing it, i was told maybe a crank kit, or an oil pump but the car has excellent oil pressure all the time except for at a stop, it also has a slight Knock that occurs at only a certain rpm, and it sounds to be coming from the front. thanks all input is appreciated

Answer
Hi Mark, well this sounds like the bearings are worn causing the low oil pressure. There would have to been a lot of gas in the oil to cause this to happen in a short amount of time. If you are hearing a knock noise that is not good. If it is a rod bearing that is bad the rod will have to be rebuilt or replaced. A main bearing might spin and this will damage the block. The best thing to do is remove the engine and disassemble to inspect all bearings.

Hope this helps
