Chevrolet Repair: 2000 chevy blazer, chevy blazer, fuse panel

Question
My car will turn over..but won't start. Possibly the fuel pump..or maybe a fuel filter? The past couple of months the gas gauge has been going bonkers..not giving us a correct reading..so we always put fuel in it..just to be on the safe side. But before we take it to a mechanic..I would like to be able to ask him some questions (about fuel filters and pumps)..maybe you could give me a few pointers, so that I won't go in there looking ignorant. Thank you for any help that you might be able to give me..

Answer
Hello lindy...The fuel pump and gas gage are one ''complete'' assembly in the gas tank....So before you spend all that money for the''module'' lets do this..First i want you to turn the ignition key to the ''run'' position. When you do,you should hear the fuel pump come on for about three seconds and stop..this will sound like a ''hum'' near the rear of the car.If you do then you should have the fuel rail pressure checked..This requires a special gage but will tell you whether the fuel pump is working or not.NOW...The module has a plug which has a tendency to get very loose and caroded. You can have some one check and clean this connection. Both these things will stop your vehicle and make your gas gage erratic...Now you may have an idea of what you are looking for..You might also check your fuse panel for a fuel pump''crank''fuse that is burned out...Best
