Chevrolet Repair: 99 Chevy Blazer Ignition Issues, chevy blazer, blown fuse

Question
Hi Mark, thanks for offering your advice to the masses! Your knowledge is most appreciated!

Anyways, I have a 99 Blazer and just replaced the ignition cylinder with an aftermarket cylinder. I've replaced a handful of cylinders in other vehicles and haven't had this problem arise. To replace the cylinder I removed the steering wheel and components and removed the ignition case from the steering wheel column. Once the case was removed I was able to pop out the old cylinder and pop the new one in with no problems. After hooking everything back up and then hooking the battery back up the Blazer will not start. The key turns in each position correctly and works like it should but when attempting to crank the blazer the starter is not being engaged. No noise or anything. I'm thinking this may have something to do with the systems Anti Theft device. I've read that I can keep the key turned in the start position and leave it there and that should register the new key/cylinder. That unfortuntaely didn't work. Short of taking it to the dealer can you offer any other things to look for or try?
Thanks in advance!
David

Answer
Hello David, I don't think you need to relearn the theft system just for a ignition cylinder. It should crank and stall if you did need to. Maybe there is a problem with the ignition switch itself. Test the large yellow wire coming out of the switch for power in the crank position, should have it. If not maybe there is a blown fuse or a bad ignition switch. Anyways here is the steps to relearn the pass lock system.....you might need a scan tool to the job so the dealer might be needed. I would test the switch first.

30 Minute Procedure
Ensure that the battery is fully charged.
Use a scan tool in order to clear the Passlock™ DTCs.
Turn the ignition switch from the OFF position to the CRANK position, and then to the RUN position. The vehicle will start and then stall.
Leave the ignition ON until the security telltale turns OFF in 10 minutes.
Repeat Steps 3-5 for 2 more times (3 times total)
The Passlock™ controller will learn the new data on the next start attempt.
Use a scan tool in order to clear all DTCs.
