Chevrolet Repair: 99 Park Ave 3.8L auto rear noise..., atlanta motor speedway, rear struts

Question
Hello,
I am a part time mechanic of sorts, meaning I've worked about 5 years combined at a dealership and other shops. Now I do it on my own and family and friends etc. Everyone wants you to do something. I am trying to figure out a particular problem on my PA. When pulling in the driveway over very bumpy terrain and any other areas where I am pulling into somewhere bumpy, I hear a noise from the left rear. Not a deep clunk, but lighter than that almost a clink or clank. Plain as day it makes noise so i thought ok, it's something in the suspension. After pulling the left rear, I found nothing and it all looks intact. It's possible the rear struts, which are self stabilizing, are bad because they look old, just can't find anything really wrong with them. If I guessed, it almost sounds as if the wheel drops going over a large bump, leading me to believe the struts needed replacing, but I'm not convinced. Are there any general signs/sounds that you have experienced with struts going bad or other rear suspension issues? Appreciate your time. Thanks.

Answer
Sorry it took so long to answer, went to the Atlanta Motor Speedway to watch the Bass Pro Shop 500 Nascar race.
Yes, I have run into a similiar problem with a Dodge 2.2.
I tore it apart just to find out the bearing wasn't loaded right. It was loose causing the wheel to make a similiar sound. Look at the bushings again also.
