QuestionI took the distributor out of the 4.3 liter V-6 to repair the intake manifold gasket. I did not mark the distributor prior to removal. The distributor is the electronic type with a cap and rotor. How do reinstall the distributor in the proper position?
Answer1. Install new o-ring
2.Rotate crankshaft to position #1 cylinder to TDC
3. Turn rotor so that it matches with #1 terminal on the cap.
4. The rotor can be turned in either direction to get it to point to the #1 terminal.
5. Tap the starter a couple of times to make sure the oil pump rod is mated with the distribtor
6. Bring the harmonic balancer back to the "o" mark and be sure the #1 cylinder is at tdc.
7. Install the cap , rotor, electrical connections,etc. and fire it up.
dont forget to secure the distributor before starting it.
