Chevrolet Repair: 1995 Cavalier cooling fan wiring, cooling fan, knock on wood

Question
My boyfriend is working on my daughters newly purchased, not running, 1995 Cavelier 2.2. He has one last(knock on wood) problem.  The cooling fan was not working and we found it has a rigged up wiring hooked to the battery and wires running into the car under the dash on the driver's side left. Can't figure out how they were originally hooked up. Our solution so far is to put a toggle switch in the car so the driver can turn the fan on and off.

Answer
Well, I am sure glad I'm not the only person that has run into this problem.
I will send you to the right area or get you on the right track.
From what I read, your boyfriend is electrically inclined enough to follow along.
Disconnect and reconnect the improper wires and proper wires.
Once this is done, look under the hood, up towards the windshield about in the center. You will see a few black relay boxes. One of these is most likely bad that operates the cooling fan.
