Chevrolet Repair: geo storm, geo storm, timing belt

I have a 1993 Geo Storm the timing belt broke the other day the mech thats fixing are car told us that the motor has no compressin and we need a new one,My question is with the timing belt broke the motor wouldn,t have compressin would it for the piston and valves to work don't the timing belt need to be working?

What happens if the timing belt breaks when the car is running is everything goes out of time . If this happens there is nothing to keep the pistons a valves from hitting each other, more than likely what happened in your case is you bent a valve or 2 from hitting a piston. So more than likely you will need a new engine sorry to say
