Chevrolet Repair: Transmission Probs, throttle linkage, output shaft

Question
I just had the engine rebuilt and just put it back into my 1988 K1500 4X4 5.7L a couple of days ago.  It drove fine yesterday and now it wont shift out of 1st gear.  This happened a couple of years ago and it was the governer gear.  It has been checked this time and its fine.  Do you have any suggestions as I am eager to finally drive this truck.  Thanks in advance for your help!

Answer
Hi Dana, Be sure they checked the gear on the output shaft that drives the governer. I have seen the clip break that holds it to the shaft and this will happen. If all is good there, check the detent cable adjustment that connects to the throttle linkage. Good there, Then it must be a stuck valve in the valve body. A good cleaning will fix that.
