Subaru Repair: Driving up grade, engine heats oil that smokes, oil pumps, leak oil

Question
So my Subaru is a 1998 Wagon 2.5L; super I know. It has had some real
issues, I'd say the mechanics were giving me the run around but, the car
seems to be doing a lot better since the repairs. Sadly I know nothing about
these cars, I can only assume what the problem is. So right now my car has
had to oil pumps, replaced do to leaking. The 10mm or so allen wrench holes
seen from the bottom of the vehicle were known to leak oil. Leaking oil then
reached the oil pan and began to smoke. I have no idea if it is the pressure of
the engine forcing oil out or if it is the leaky allen wrench holes type things.
Horrible descriptions I am trying my best here.  The pump itself doesn't
seem to be very high quality, the connection point between the two sides of it
seems like it has oil in the gap.  Just trying to diagnose, and go to the repair
man with some good talking points.  Peace.

Answer
The oil pump on a Subaru 2.5l will need to resealed at some time ,its not a matter of if its when.It should not have to be replaced. What is important is that the screws on the back side of the pump are tightened. And an original equipment oil pump o-ring and front crankseal are installed as well as high quality silicone sealer such as Subaru 3 bond sealer. This will ensure a good repair  and not one that will need to be redone.A lot of techs who don't know Subaru mis diagnose the issue as oil coming from the two plus at the bottom of the pump but that not the real fix.I hope that helps
