Chevrolet Repair: 93 Chevy Tahoe 4.3 Vortec, chevy tahoe, fuel spray

Question
The truck will turn over but will not start. Not even try to start. Where is the fuel filter and the fuel pump located on this truck? I also read something about a pulse unit on the fuel punp, could that be bad also?

Thanks for your help,

Kevin

Answer
Hello Kevin,
The fuel pump is inside the fuel tank.
If operating properly, you should be able to hear it run for two seconds after the key is turned to run.

The pulse unit you might be thinking of is also inside the tank. It is just a vibration dampener to cut down on noise, but looks like a fat piece of hose, where the pump connects to the line inside the tank.
I have seen them split, and just let the fuel spray inside the tank, rather than build pressure.

The filter is in a clip on the frame, just about under the drivers seat, but under the truck, on the inside edge of the frame.

The best way to check ALL of those items, is with a fuel pressure tester connected to the test port on the fuel rail. If the correct pressure is maintained, then all of them are OK.

There could also be an electrical problem related to the fuel pump if you don't hear it run. There is a fuse, and a relay, as well as wire connections.

If the pump runs, and the pressure is good, fuel may not be the problem. Have you checked to see if there is spark?
