Chevrolet Repair: MISSING VIN NUMBERS, question boxes, crosspiece

Question
i APOLOGIZE FOR BOTHERING YOU WITH THIS QUESTION, BUT YOUR FRIENDS QUESTION BOXES ARE ALL FULL.  I'M MISSING THE VIN NUMBER OFF OF A 1966 IMPALA I JUST PURCHASED.  THE CAR HAD SOME BODY WORK DONE TO IT, AND IN ORDER FOR ME TO GET A NEW TITLE I NEED THE VIN NUMBERS.  IS THERE ANYWHERE ELSE ON THE VEHICLE WHERE I CAN FIND THE VIN?

Answer
Hello Cory,
The most common place is at the bottom edge of the windshield in front of the driver, viewed through the windshield. It is actually mounted to the crosspiece that the dashboard mounts to. Pretty much a nonremovable part of the car body.
Then it should also be on a decal or metal tag on the drivers door post, by the latch.
Third, there is a tag in the glove compartment, or underside of the trunk lid called a RPO tag, with a bunch of three digit codes, but it should have the vin on it.
There could also be a tag on the core support, the thing that the radiator is mounted to.

If the one on the dash, ahead of the driver is gone, I would sure question the body shop, or previous owner. That may be a stolen and remanufactured car.
