Chevrolet Repair: Gas Leak?, chevy s10, gas fumes

Question
HI Mark
I have a 1985 chevy s10 V6. When i first got this truck it had leaky gas lines, so i had them replaced. After that i could fill up my tank with no problem. BUt lately when i fill up my tank it always goes back down to 1/4. It will read above 1/4 for a while but then over night it will go back down. I figured i had a gas leak but theres never a drip and when i park it in a garage i never see a puddle under the truck. I do smell gas fumes sometimes when im around my truck though. Just yesterday i jacked my truck up and went underneath to inspect the tank and the lines and i couldnt find anything wrong. Help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Answer
Hi Nic, If there are no leaks and the tank is still full, (you can't put 10 gallons into it) then the level sensor in the tank is bad. This is the float that tells the gauge where to move with the level of the gas in the tank. Sounds to me like this is your problem.

Have a Great Day
