Pontiac Repair: pontiac transport A/C, pontiac transport, pressure ports

Question
I have a 1993 Pontiac Transport with a 3800 engine.
It has no A/C. The compressor does not kick in when A/C button is pushed in car.
Failed last fall. During the winter I replaced the batery and noticed a burnt fuse link on the terminal in the upper right side of engine compartment. I replaced it with a small piece of wire. If I jumper the switch on the side of the accumulator when the car is running the engine speeds up, the aux fan kicks in. When I remove the jumper the engine and fan continue as if I did nothing. If I jumper it with the key on and no engine running I hear nothing.
any ideas? My wife's car and it's getting warm in Wisconsin (finallly. "

Answer
i would check the pressure of youre a\c system if the freon gets low it will not kick on.if youre system is an r12 system you will have to have it serviced by a licensed technician.if it is 134a system you can buy a recharge kit at youre local auto parts store or wal-mart.it comes with instructions.you can tell the difference by checking the pressure ports on youre a/c hoses.usually small black caps are r12 system / 1 red and 1 blue cap is 134a system one cap is also larger than the other on 134a systems.
