Chevrolet Repair: about dex-cool coolant, engine gasket, coolant leak

Question
Mr. Mark,

my same car malibu chevy 2002 model previously got some slight leak on the engine gasket. I changed my coolant concentration to 1:2 ratio. Meaning 1liter dex-cool to 2 liters of drinking water and i noticed no more leakage. does the coolant has something to do with it? the car ìs not getting overheated. do i have to return to the proper mixture of 1:1 ratio?

Hi Gary, I'm not much with the parts end of the business, but here is something I found. I wouldn't use these plugs, get the same number!

Numbering

1st number denotes THREAD SIZE

2nd number denotes HEAT RANGE

In the early 1990s an all numeric identification code was developed to ensure that the proper spark plug would be selected for replacement in specific engine applications. The numeric code does not in any way correspond to the heat range of the spark plug. Therefore, selection of a spark plug with a different code number is not recommended. The heat ranges may be drastically different between two different plugs and engine damage or poor performance may result.

The prefix "41" stands for the manufacturer's product line (i.e., 41= spark plug)

Numbers after the prefix indicate the type of spark plug and also the specific application:

100 – 199 = Iridium

600 – 699 = Resistor

800 – 999 = Double Platinum

Answer
Hi Gary, I don't know where you live but if it's in the north where the temps get down below zero, this mixture won't do the job to keep it from freezing. If you live in the south then you'll be all right. The most common place for the coolant leak is the intake gasket, and I'm sure that the mixture ratio has nothing to do with it not leaking now.

Hope this helps you
