Chevrolet Repair: two batteries, amp fuse, fuse block


Question
my chevy suburban 4x4 2500 3/4 ton, 7.4 engine, 1996 has two batteries under the hood.  the second batterie is dead and i unconnetced it, the second batterie was routed thru the fuse block under the hood with a 30 amp fuse that was burned out.  why second batterie and will any damage be done to my engine on the long run. as of know it runs and starts fine please help

Hello Artur,
The fuse is in the charging circuit to the battery, and that is probably why it was dead.
But if it is starting ok, there is no need for the second battery, and won't hurt anything to run without it.
If it were a diesel engine, more power is needed to crank, but unless you have a lot of electric accessories, like a stereo, rear air conditioner, entertainment center, and more, you can get along just fine with one battery.
