Chevrolet Repair: Engine stalling, mass air sensor, mass air flow sensor

Question
Where or how do I find the mass air sensor? Is it hard to replace? Is there a way to test it or do you just replace it? I don't mind looking for other things, just didn't know where to start. Thanks for giving me a starting point.
Ron

I have a 1988 Chevy Camero, automatic transmission with a 6 cyl. engine. When driving the car it sometimes stops running. You can feel it in the pedal and try to pump it, but it dies anyway. You can throw it into neutral and get it to start before coming to a full stop. It doesn't do it all the time, but when it does, it sometimes does it more than twice. Can you give me some kind of idea as to what to look for? I was thinking that it might be the fuel pump going out, but don't know for sure if that's it. Also I don't know if the fuel pump is in the gas tank or not. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Ronnie, As you might know, I can't help you on this one. You need to locate why this engine is stalling, Spark or fuel! If it starts right back up this one is going to be a problem. You might want to start with a new mass air sensor as a guess.

Sorry I can't help

Answer
The Mass air flow sensor is between the air filter and the throttle body. You will see a sensor with wires going to it in the tube the air goes through. Some cars don't have one but I think yours does.

Let me know what you find.

PS    You could also disconnect this sensor and drive the car. The check engine light will be ON but if it still stalls you will know it isn't that sensor.
