Chevrolet Repair: My Chev van 2001 often dose not start, fuel pressure gage, fuel pressure regulator

Question
My van often dose not start. After (drying) cleaning spark plugs it starts ok.
It could happen next day again. Finally when it starts, it coughs, extra full shows from the muffler. I do use fuel injection cleaner every 4-5 gas up. Chevy van 1500,  year 2001, 5 litter.
Any suggestion please?

Answer
Hello Steven, The first thing to check is the fuel pressure regulator. Remove the vacuum hose going to it and look for any sign of gas. If there is gas in the hose and coming out of the regulator, replace it. After you look at this let me know what you find.

Brain Fart!!   This engine has a fuel regulator that inside the intake manifold. This could still be the problem, but to check this one isn't easy. You need to install a fuel pressure gage, prime the system and watch for the gauge to drop off. It should hold for a at least 2 minutes. If it drops steady you have a leak. The other thing to check is the dist cap and rotor, make sure it is clean inside the cap.

Let me know
