Chevrolet Repair: 99 Chevy S-10 water leak, engine coolant, water leak

Question
Hi I have a 99 Chevy S-10 V6 4 wheel drive and recently have had a bad water leak, I have inspected all the hoses and It seems to be coming out of the block. How can I tell if it is coming from the block or the manifold and how can I repair it myself?

Thanks

Answer
Hello Amber,
I assume you mean engine coolant, and not just water, which could be condensation from the a/c.

If it is coolant, the best way to look is get the truck into a dark area, like a garage with the lights off.
Then use flashlights, or other lights, and mirrors, so you can see the source.
The reason for the dark, is you are not blinded by light from the surrounding area.
Try it...you will find it works much better.
Look at all the block plugs, the bottom edges of the heads, and the heater hoses.

Be sure you find where it is coming from before disassembling anything so you don't repeat a bunch of work.
