Chevrolet Repair: transfer case - Blazer 1998, transfer case, blazer

Hi,

My blazer 4x4 1998 is making this dry noise like it had a broken bearing, I took it to the mechanic and he told me it was the chain from the transfer case, he is not willing to repair it because he says is too complicated but on the other hand he wants to change the whole transfer. I don't know if actually he is telling me true or how expensive will be repair it compare to change it completly. I would appreciate any recommendation regarding my problem.

It is much easier to replace it than repair it, and if he is selling you the replacement transfer case, he will make money on the sale also.
Plus, he will probably end up with the old one.

It is a very easy one to replace. I would do it in the driveway.

You could remove and replace it also.

It will need to be removed to do either job, so I would remove it, then disassemble it to see for sure what is wrong. Nothing lost in doing that.
