Chevrolet Repair: missing rotor assembly mounting bolt, rotor assembly, replacement bolt

Question
Hello Van,
Yesterday I started getting a clanking/clunking noise from my left front brake area when applying the brakes while reversing.  Upon inspection I found that the lower rotor assembly mounting bolt ( one of two ) was missing.  I am tracking down a replacement bolt today and praying that that is the problem.  I assume that the assembly is moving a slight bit when Applying the brakes thus the noise.  Does this sound right to you?

Thanks,
Tim

Answer
Hi Tim,
That would sound like that, and I bet a new one will fix it.
The bolts don't actually stop the vehicle, they just hold the caliper inside the bracket.
But if the missing bolt is the one that holds the bracket to the spindle, then it does do the stopping. Replace as soon as you can.
Have you checked to see if the other bolt fell out, as opposed to breaking off?
