Chevrolet Repair: Cruse control and speedometer, speedometer cable, correct direction

Question
Regarding my cruse control and speedometer.

They may seem related but I am pretty sure they are not because
the Cruse control went out over a year ago and the speedometer
just recently stoppped working.  The multi-function lever is
relatively new and everything eles on it works so I dont think it is
the problem.  What eles should I replace or check to fix a non-
working cruse control?
My second question has to do with the speedometer and
odometer.  One day they just stopped working.  I bought a new
speedometer cable but before I replace it I wanted to know if
that is the definate problem.  I disconnected the cable from the
transmission to see if the inner cable was broken.  I am not sure
how the cable is supposed to work.  Should it spin freely?  If it
was the problem would I be able to pull it out from the outer
sleeve?  When I checked it it didn't spin, pull, twist nothing.
What do you think should be my next steps.  Thankyou so much
for your time!

Answer
Hi Ben,
I have no idea what type or year vehicle you have.

As for the cable, it should turn easily from that end, and display speed on the speedometer if turned in the correct direction.
Might possibly pull it out, but i doubt it. It would pull from the other end on most GM's.
There is also the possibility the drive gear in the transmission is stripped.
