Chevrolet Repair: a/c, iroc z, compressor clutch

Question
I have an 89 Iroc-Z..my ac went out suddenly so I thought I was out of freon due to the fact that it wasn't blowing all that cold anyway...so I bought the conversion kit for r-12 to r134a. but after reading several other questions regarding ac units i'm hesitant to convert and thinking of staying r-12...aside from that i've noticed my compressor clutch doesn't engage anymore...is it my clutch or compressor or both...and after I had all the r-12 removed my pressure was 0...but 2 days later it was in the red zone..any thoughts..

Answer
Hi Glyn,
May be neither the compressor, or the clutch.
A low charge will keep the clutch from engaging.

I can't explain the pressure with no freon.
Why did you have it all removed, and how? By a certified A/C mechanic with a recovery system?

Sounds like a visit to one of them is in order, and possibly for a retrofit conversion.
