Chevrolet Repair: Acceleration Problem 2001 Chev Prism, throttle position sensor, hairline crack

Question
My husband has a 2001 Chev Prism. We have a problem at times with acceleration either from a starting position or making the car accelerate while driving. He took it to a mechanic that kept it for 3 weks and the man said that it was the oxygen sensor.  He changed it out. Car still didnt work so mechanic changed it out again. It still doesnt work. We had to have the car back, so we paid the $1790 for the repairs that never did work and now the car still does the same thing. Any suggestions?

Answer
What is the COMPLETE past repair history of the vehicle ?. EVERYTHING even if only you think it was minor or not possibly related.

What mechanical work or ANY kind of work has been performed on the vehicle recently ?. As most problems that occur after a recent repair was made can be traced back to the area of where the repair was made as a vacuum line may have been knocked loose or a wire connection came loose, Look around in the area where work was performed.

Possibilities are:

A hairline crack in one of the spark plugs.

A faulty spark plug wire(s).

An intermittent fault in the THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR of which may NOT illuminate the check engine light.

A cracked or broken vacuum line on the engine.

Give me a more deatiled explanation of the problem .
