Chevrolet Repair: Transmission Lock-up torque converter, tcc solenoid, astro van

Question
I own a 1997 Astro van 6 Cyl. Sometimes, when stopping at crossroads or traffic lights, it tends to make a noise only noticeable from inside that feels like someone has rear-ended you. It sounds like shifting to low when you stop. The problem is that it feels like you missed the shift. I have done some research on the matter and it appears to be the Lock up torque converter valve according to other owner's experience. If so, is this expensive to have change and what's the grade of difficulty?

Thanks!
Manny Guzman.

Answer
That IS a possibility but usually when the TCC solenoid starts to fail it tends to keep the overdrive engaged and when you come to a stop the vehicle shudders and then the engine stalls out.

Replacing it is NOT that difficult on a REAR WHEEL drive vehicle.

You can either order the original factory TCC solenoid whereas it will come with the complete electrical harness attached to it and you do NOT have to cut and splice the 2 wires as you would have to do if you bought a generic one from a local auto parts store.

Although cutting and splicing the wires is really not that difficult and it is MUCH CHEAPER than buying the original one from a dealer.

dealer cost for TCC approx $80.00
Local parts store cost approx $25.00.

with 10 being extremly difficult and 1 being simple, This would be about a 4.

I can guide you along if you want to replace it yourself but you would need to contact me at:
