Chevrolet Repair: window, lock washers, chevrolet cavalier

Question
I have a 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier LS Coupe 53,000 mi. For the past few months I've noticed that the power driver side window has been slowing down. Now, the window rolls down very slowly and will not roll back up until the car has rested for several hours. Someone told me that the window motor was burned out and that to repair/replace it would cost hundreds because they have to take apart the door. Is this true? How much is too much to pay? Can I fix it myself? I live in Chicago. Thank you.

Answer
Fixing it yourself depends upon your mechanical skills in automotive repair.

1. You have to FIND all the hidden screws and plastic snap connectors in order to remove the inside door panel.

2. You will in most cases have to remove the complete window and window track assembly from the door.

3. Drill out the 3 large rivets that are used to mount the window motor to the window frame.

4. Remove the window motor and install the new one using new rivets or small bolts, lock washers and nuts.

5. Reinstall the complete window assembly and trying to get the whole system re-aligned is a real pain.

Your probably looking at $300.00.
