Chevrolet Repair: 1987 Chevrolet S-10 Blazer, haynes manual, dash lights

Question
We just bought a 1987 Chevy S-10 blazer (originally just for the transmission, but since motor was good and it was in good condition we decided to drive it.)  The man we bought it from told us the brainbox was bad in it but when my husband got it home he set it in time and it started perfectly.  Now it is acting like it is not getting fuel when you try to start it.  We have changed the fuel pump 3 different times, we have also checked the distributor, coil, plugs, plug wires, etc and all seem fine.  It is a throttle body and when you pour fuel down into the throttle body it starts just fine and continues to run until it is shut off and then will not start back again.  Can you maybe give us some other things to check for and some suggestions on what else may be going on?  The Haynes manual says to check the fuel pump fuse but we don't know where it is at.  Please help with some suggestions and remedies.  Thank you.

Answer
The FIRST thing you need to do is TRASH that USELESS PICE OF MIS-INFORMATION called a HAYNES manual as this book will give you more WRONG information than you can ever imagine.

EXACTLY what is your problem ?.

NO fuel or no spark to the spark plugs ?.

Fuel pump circuit test:

1. Get yourself a helper.

2. remove the gas cap.

3. have one person listen in the gas tank at the gas cap opening.

4. have the other person turn the ignition switch to the ON position ONLY so as the dash lights come on. Do NOT attempt to start the engine.

5. As soon as the ignition key is turned to the ON position, The person at the gas tank should hear the fuel pump run for TWO SECONDS and then it should STOP.

6. Does it ?.

If you do NOT hear it run, in most cases the fault is the fuel pump.

let me know.
