Hi, I have a 91 Chevy Lumina 3.1 that keeps on stalling. The Fuel pump kicks on when you turn the key to the first click, but it will not start when you try to turn it over. When you take out the fuse and the it will fire up, and then stay running providing you reinsert the fuse quickly and step your foot on the gas reving it up to 3000 rpms. Any suggestions?

Thank you, Bob

Answer
I would have to say that you may possibly have a faulty oil pressure switch and this is how the fuel pump circuit operates:

1. When you first turn ON the ignition switch the fuel pump relay runs for TWO SECONDS via battery voltage from the ECM (computer). This pressurizes the fuel system.

2. Once the engine starts the fuel pump relay is BY-PASSED and no longer utilized and battery voltage is supplied from the ECM thru the oil pressure switch to the fuel pump.
