I need to replace the rear brakes on my Corsica. I have tried to take the hubs off and cant get them off. The shoes are worn down but it doesnt feel like they are what is keeping the hub from coming off. There isnt any place to back the brake off that I can see. When I try to take the hub off the whole hub moves except the center, almost like it is froze on. I asked the dealer and they did not know. The only thing that they could sugjest was to take the whole hub assembly off of the car? Do you know anything about this ? Could use some help. By the way this is a 1990 chevy Corsica front wheel drive. Thanks  Tim C

Are the REAR brakes DISC with brake PADS or DRUM with brake SHOES ?. Are you referring to the brake DRUM ?.

Sorry, yes they are drums with brake shoes.

Answer
The drums are rusted around the axle hub. Spray some RUST BUSTER along the center hole of the drums and let it soak for an hour and lightly tap around the area of the center of the hub with a hammer and the drums will start to move and you will be able to pull them off.

Be careful as not to hit on the drums to hard for fear of cracking them put you can use a little force with the hammer.
