Chevrolet Repair: 1988 chevy asto, astro van, pink wire

HEY VAN. hOW ARE YOU DOING? WELL I HAVE A ASTRO VAN AND I AM NO MECHANIC I NEED TO KNOW WHAT WOULD CAUSE OR WHERE WOULD I BEGIN TO CHECK THIS VAN IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. BUT IT HAS NOT BEEN CRANKED UP IN TWO YEARS. IT TURNS OVER BUT I,M NOT GETTING ANY FIRE I CHECKED THE PLUGS FOR FIRE BUT THERE IS NONE WHAT WOULD YOU ADVISE ME TO DO. OTHER THAN TAKE IT TO A REAL MECHANIC. IF YOU COULD GIVE ME SOME INPUT I SURE DO THANK YOU.  BOB FANNIN

Hi Bob,
I would check fuses, especially Ign for ignition.
Look closely at all the wires to see if some rodent has chewed some of them.
Work the ignition switch aggressively a few times back and forth in case it isn't making good contact internally.
Then you will need to check under the hood to see if there is power to the coil and ignition system.
I would guess you have a V8, with the coil inside the distributor cap, meaning a oblong flat place on top of the distributor cap.
If so, there is a section of the top of the cap that has a few wires connected to the bottom side of it. A rather large red or pink wire is one of them. That is marked Bat., and should have battery voltage when the ignition switch is turned to run.
If you have a coil mointed outside the distributor, make sure there is battery voltage at the bat or ign post. On that type, you can also use a test light on the other post to see if it blinks as the engine is cranked.

Those are some places to start.
Plus, just wiggle all the wire connections.
