Chevrolet Repair: drum brakes, drum brakes, air bubbles

Question
hi, i would like to no how to adjust drum brakes without the drum on the so i don't have to punch out the hole in he drum, can that be done and how can i adjust them without drum on, hope you can help with this thank you tim, this is for a 2000 chevy malbiu

Answer
They make little rubber plugs to put in place of the knock outs. However you can adjust the brakes without knocking out the metal tab by removing the drum and hand turning the adjusting wheel a couple of turns and re-installing the drum until you can feel a SLIGHT DRAG of the drum rubbing against the brake shoes. You may have to repeat this process a couple of times until you ONLY feel a SLIGHT DRAG.

WARNING: If you get the drum to tight, You can burn up the barke shoes, warp the drum and worst of all the brake being to tight can cause air bubbles in the brake fluid thus causing loss of brakes.
