Nissan Repair: stop lamp fuse, master switch, test light

Question
hey there i have a 93 sentra se-r and the stop lamp fuse keeps blowing out every time i turn on the lights what can i do thanks

Answer
Alex,

Remove the rear brake/turn lights and check the sockets to make sure they are not shorted.  Now, when you turn the blinkers or press the brakes I suppose the lights do not blow the fuse?  Email me back.  But, from what you said I would check the sockets first.  If all checks out.  And, you can use a test light and another person or just put the bulbs back in one at a time with the lights on and see when the fuse pops.  This narrows down which side is causing the problem.  Now, if nothing is found then I would say the master switch on the column is defective and shorting out.  This is under $100 bucks for the switch and it only takes a screwdriver to replace it.  The steering wheel does not have to come off.  Just the cover to access the mounting points for the switch.
