Chevrolet Repair: Replacing a Wheel Bearing Assemby, chevy venture van, wheel drive car

Question
Hi Mark;
My wheel bearing assembly appears to have gone bad ( left front wheel )on my 1998 Chevy Venture van.  I have changed bearings before on rear wheel drive GM cars and found the job simple.  I have never done a front wheel drive car and never have had to remove the assembly.  Is the job relatively simple in relation to replacing the front bearings on GM cars ( like a 1985 Camero? ) Thanks
Tim

Answer
Hi Tim, This job isn't that bad but you need the right tools. You will need a 36mm,15mm,13mm,and a 21mm socket. You will first remove the axle nut(36mm). Now carefully tap the end of the axle to push it in a little. Now remove the brake caliper and rotor. Now remove the strut bolts and pull the knuckle away from the strut. Now remove the 3 bolts that hold the wheel bearing to the knuckle. Knock the bearing out and install the new one.

Hope this helps you
