Chevrolet Repair: brake caliper, brake caliper, brake calipers

Question
Hi Mark:
        One more question if i may.Which "o" rings are to blame? Is the dust seal on the piston itself that pushes the pad into the rotor the one? or is there some other rubber bushing that iam not seeing? Thank you.

Hi;
   I have a question regarding front brake calipers on a 1988 Chevy S-10 2w.d.. I noticed an annoying metalic clunking noise on the truck.Recently while changing oil in the truck i grabbed the caliper just to check if that might have been causing the annoying rattle.To my surprise the calipers were loose and did "clunk"when i grabbed them and shook them.The allen bolts are super tight and secure.What is the remedy or are the calipers supposed to have play like that? Thank you.

Hello Tom, The rubber O rings that the caliper sleeves ride on are no good/gone. You could buy new sleeves and O rings in a hardware kit for the calipers or install reman calipers if the O ring grooves are worn out.

Answer
Hi Tom, It's the sleeve that the caliper mounting bolt goes throught. Between that sleeve(which might be stuck to the bolt near the part where you put the socket) and the caliper itself. You can buy a reman caliper for less than $20 which comes with everything you need including new bolts. This is the way to go!!! Hope this helps !!
