Chevrolet Repair: 93 geo prism acceleration problems, mass air flow sensor, mass air flow

Question
I know the first problem is that it is a geo.

But, anyway. Car starts fine in all weather. After driving about five minutes and coming to a stop and trying to accelerate. I acts like its vapor locking and not getting any gas when peddle is to the floor it won't accelerate. Then for no reason it will be fine for a few minutes then start acting up again.

Fuel Filter?

I am a girl but, I am very mechanically inclined, I do better with the old fashioned carburated models.

Any help would be great.

Thanks Sandra D.

Answer
Hello Sandra, A girl :)  There have been many problems with the mass air flow sensor on these models. This sensor is located in the air inlet tube and held in with 2 screws. Remove it and clean the little wires inside with carb cleaner. Don't touch them they will break, just clean off the inside parts with the spray.

Let me know how you make out
